Though we are sad to admit it, October’s arrival has forced us to admit that those long sunny summer days are truly behind us. Though some of us have tried to deny the need to put the summer wardrobe away, attempting to brave the cold, there is no escape. A new season is here and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to shop!
Update your wardrobe with a few key pieces that will easily work day to night and all those times in between.
1. Walk down your local high street and fur is everywhere! Make like Mossy and add a touch of glamour to your wardrobe with a faux fur jacket. There’s everything ranging from cropped jackets to full length pieces, gillets and hats. Take your pick from rusty tones, leopard print and even pink if you dare. Hot for autumn, these will make you look uber-cool and keep you super snug.
2. Feel cosy and stylish in oversized chunky knitwear. Best worn over super-tight skinnies and boots teamed with a rosy glow for that walk in the country, girl about town look.
3. Indulge your quirky side with comic and cartoon pullover’s and slogan t-shirts. There’s loads in the shops at the moment. Choose from your fav childhood cartoons and let your inner child out to play. Tom and Jerry’s a popular choice, as well as Mickey Mouse and Hello Kitty.
4. Choose from a wide range of jackets this autumn. The boyfriend blazer is still as popular as ever; roll back the sleeves for a night on the town. Sleek and smart military blazers are bang on trend this autumn. Gone are the grungy styles of the past, this season a new and more elegant look has been seen on the high street and catwalks alike.
5. For everyday wear, when the weather gets nippy, keep the cold out with a duffle coat. Make like Cheryl Cole, Agynes Deyn and Britney Spears and wear a classic British toggle jacket. Team with satchel arm candy and geek-chic glasses. Whoever said fashion wasn’t practical?
6. Chanel-esque quilted bags are still a style staple for autumn, so no need to banish your favourite lovely to the wardrobe. Celebs everywhere have been spotted with their faithful Chanel’s and no wonder - they are a true piece of classic style and are perfect for every occasion.
7. Finish your autumn/winter look off by rockin’ a killer pair of ankle boots. Fall head over heels for these skyscraper pencil thin heels, with a chunky platform accessorized with a multitude of zips, buckles and lacing. Or….
8. Steal some of fashinista Victoria Beckham’s style and choose thigh high flats or heels depending on your mood. These were seen on all over the place at London Fashion Week. Team with dresses and skinnies alike.
9. If you feel like being comfy and cosy, take a leaf from girl of the moment Alexa Chung and team masculine worker boots with quirky girlie vintage dresses. Layer up tights and socks to keep toes toasty on those really cold days.
10. To cap it all off, complete your new winter wardrobe with a pair of pastel coloured, 50’s inspired ladylike, leather driver gloves. Once only an accessory for members of Hells Angels, this season leather gloves have gone all feminine. Choose from candy pink, frills, tassels and girlie stud details.
