Ladies the fashion police are hot on your heels!

The Trade Union Congress is trying to ban women from wearing heels in the workplace! So on which side of the fence do you lie or are u sitting comfortably somewhere in the middle?

They say that while ‘high heels may look glamorous on Hollywood Catwalks, they are completely inappropriate for the day to day working environment’- Telegraph 09. This is backed up with medical advice from the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists who claim that heels can cause an extensive number of physical problems;blisters, corns, calluses, damaged joints, knee and back pain to name a few. They have also reported that lower leg injuries are reported to cost a staggering 2 million working days per year. Maybe this is the real reason why Congress are calling for women to step down into what they call ‘sensible shoes’.

But those health and safety people have really gone too far this time. We live in a society where we aren’t even allowed to change a plug in a socket without having specific training followed by the signing of papers to confirm you won’t sue if you happen to get electrocuted. What next? Are they going to ban ties, for fear of restricting men’s airways? Or leather sole heels as people may slip when wearing them on the polished office floor?

Some claim that high heels turn women into sex objects, forcing them to wear heels to satisfy men’s fantasies, with blatant disregard for their health and safety. Hello! Are we in the 1950’s here? Women stopped climbing into their favourite heels to indulge their male colleagues decades ago? In fact, heels can have a powerful effect on the psyche of a woman, making her feel much more confident in a male dominated work place. Many women actually step into their favourite skyscrapers to empower themselves to be able to stand eye to eye with men. Stilettos have the ability to boost confidence in women, making them stand taller and with better posture.

Do women feel forced to wear these heels? Do they feel they are being demeaned by men when they totter around the workplace? Probably not. Is there not freedom of choice anymore? The Suffragettes fought tooth and nail to get women the vote and now, once again, they’re being dictated to by men!

So stand up for yourselves ladies, stand proud and tall in you stilettos’. Take a stand for freedom of choice. Make those union people take a walk and say no to banning the stiletto.
