The York Revolution, in partnership with the YWCA York, is hosting the first annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on Friday, April 23, 2010. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an international march, aimed at stopping rape, sexual assault and gender violence, where men take part in a mile-long walk in women's high heels finishing at the game against the Somerset Patriots.
"It's a light hearted approach to a serious subject" said Revolution GM Matt O'Brien. "This team prides itself in making a difference and bringing people to the stadium. If it takes high heels to inspire and give hope, I'm a size 11." The fundraising event in April, which is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, will benefit the Victim Assistance Center, a program of YWCA York, which offers free services to victims of sexual assault or other violent crimes. Check-in will begin at 4:00 p.m.; the walk will start at 5:00 p.m., with a picnic and Revolution baseball game to follow.
The YWCA and the Revolution are seeking a corporate teams, collegiate teams, fire stations, construction crews, high school teams, and event partners. We are also looking for 1,000 pairs of large sized heels.
