The idea of the high heel has long been associated with sexy, kinky imagery. In relation, many fetishes are centered around high heels and stilettos, from ‘S & M’, through the idea of the Dominatrix. In addition, the high heel is associated with power and importance. For example, a smartly dressed woman in a smart pair of heels would often command greater respect than a woman without.
There is often a great deal of debate as to whether a woman in high heels or stilettos serves to intimidate a man. In relation, it is true to say that although many would not admit it; men are arguably the less secure of the two sexes, regardless of common conception. A woman in heels instantly gains extra height, and any man who finds himself towered in any way by a woman may feel intimidated and less secure in them-selves, and perhaps emasculated. As discussed earlier, high heels and stilettos can induce a sense of power, serving to intimidate a man further.
In order to adequately explore whether a woman in high heels or stilettos is attractive to a man, we would need to identify the context. If we are talking in terms of sex, then high heels can indeed add a hint of spice to the bedroom. However, sexiness is relative and footwear is no exception. An attractive lady, able to carry herself in a ‘nice’ pair of heels, is seen to be more attractive than a female who is unable to walk with elegance.
In simple terms, an attractive lady in ‘sexy’ heels is more than likely going to attract the eye of a male, and the sight of a woman in high heels is for many, a fantastical vision, and one that co notates sex and kinkiness. Furthermore, high heels in the bedroom add a novelty factor, and a sense of ‘naughtiness’.
High heels and stilettos serve to elongate the leg thus arching the back and accentuating the bum. And what could be sexier to a man then a shapely behind? In extension, fashionable, sexy shoes on a night out can increase a woman’s self esteem, thus allowing her to feel sexier, and grow in confidence, and a confident woman is a sexy woman.
However, there are perhaps a number of counter-arguments. It could be argued that they have a limited period of sex appeal. For example, if you have ever been on a night out with a group of girls, dressed to the nines, you will know that come closing time, the elegant, ornate young ladies soon end their love affair with the gorgeous new stilettos, often complaining and reiterating how painful it is to walk. This ladies, is where the sex appeal ends.
To illustrate this point further, I am going to have to commit the cardinal sin of utilising television cross reference. Have you seen the advert for the promotion of safe drinking? Depicting the angelic, beautiful young lady, happy, laughing, and walking tall with her girls on the way to the party. The advert cuts to the end of the night where she he is holding one heel, whilst being sick at the same time, generally looking quite dishevelled.
Unable to walk on the heel she has lost her angelic image. Granted this is an exaggerated, worse case scenario, and of course the advert is actually aimed at safer drinking measures, but the point is hit home effectively.
In direct relation, it could certainly be said that female fashion is increasingly becoming more focused upon the ornamental, rather than the ‘active’, thus ‘fashionable’ footwear (like high heels), can seriously restrict movement, and in turn take away a woman’s independence, perhaps more likely to hail a cab then walk, and as discussed earlier, the appearance of being independent adds a certain sex appeal, and equally, a lack of confidence can have a knock on effect on the way the female is perceived.
However, ultimately these factors will never be enough to eliminate the sex appeal, and in turn put a man off. The fact of the matter is, women wear high heels and stilettos to enhance their image, and thus increase their self esteem, serving to accentuate their body image and confidence levels, which of course all lead to one thing; male attention, and this is a fact.
